What sorts of grant opportunities does the program offer?
The program offers grants to eligible nonprofit organizations such as schools, civic organizations and other groups that work with students. Projects should focus on environmental education and stewardship. The number of grants awarded can vary annually based on requested and approved amounts.
How long does the grant review process take?
Grant requests are considered on a rolling basis, and a decision typically takes two to four months.
What types of projects will be considered for grants?
Community projects that focus on planting with an emphasis on environmental stewardship will be considered. Examples include fruit gardens, herb and vegetable gardens, flower or wildflower gardens, trees and shrubs, butterfly gardens, pollinator habitats, etc.
How can I be considered for a Dominion Energy Project Plant It! grant?
Qualifying organizations within Dominion Energy’s geographic service areas can apply online. Applications are considered on a rolling basis. To submit an application, select the “Get Started” button on this site.
What is the typical Project Plant It! grant scope?
When planning your project, please keep the scope to no more than $5,000.
What information do I need to include in my application?
All applications should include:
- Project description
- List of other sources of financial support (both committed and pending)
- The requesting organization’s current board members and affiliations
- Latest IRS determination letter indicating 501(c)(3) status
- Most recent audited financial statement
How will I know if my application has been received?
Applicants will receive an email notification through the system.
Do I need to be a Dominion Energy customer to apply?
No, but you must be located within Dominion Energy’s geographic service areas to be eligible.
When will this grant be available?
The program will begin taking applications in Summer 2023, with the first grants being distributed as early as Fall 2023.
How and when will I receive the grant?
Please allow two to four months for the grant application to be processed. Successful applicants will receive an email notification followed by a check disbursement in the mail.
